Green Building is the use of construction materials and design criteria that deliver long-lasting and improved performance over conventional building practices.
California has set the national precedent in green building practices. Beginning January 1, 2011, the 2010 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) became effective throughout California. CALGreen standards apply to all new commercial and residential buildings and, depending on the jurisdiction, may also apply to additions and remodels.
The cities and the County of Sonoma have or are in the process of converting their green building programs to the new mandatory CALGreen standards.
Check with your jurisdiction about new CALGreen standards before beginning your design.
