Split body trucks in your neighborhood!

Have you seen the garbage truck stop to collect their garbage cart and then pull forward and collect the blue recycling cart? These items are not being mixed, but are being placed in separate compartments of state-of-the art trucks. Used in some areas of Sonoma County, these vehicles decrease the number of trips through neighborhoods by one-third, while the split compartment trucks keep trash and recycling separate. Collecting two materials in one truck decreases the amount of fuel and energy used, not to mention reduced traffic on roadways and in neighborhoods.

California has new California Air Resource Board rules that go into effect in 2010. These new trucks meet and exceed all these new California air quality standards and run on Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel, which is specifically refined diesel fuel that has dramatically reduced sulfur content than the previous standard in highway diesel.

Local jurisdictions have contracts with franchised garbage companies to provide service for collection of garbage, recycling and green waste for residences and businesses.

Remember that, you are charged for the size of your garbage can. For residential customers, the 20-gallon mini-can is the smallest size available. That means if you divert your waste through recycling and composting, you’ll pay less for garbage. Some areas are also eligible for bulky item pickup.
