Municipal wood processing
Wood waste collected at County Refuse Disposal Sites is processed by Sonoma Compost Company under contract with the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency. Activities occur adjacent to composting operations on a 25-acre portion of the Central Disposal Site between Cotati and Petaluma.
Recyclable wood waste is ground into mulch. Some is sold as landscape product, however the majority is used as fuel at an off-site biomass energy plant. Good condition lumber is recovered and sold for reuse.
Remember that when visiting disposal sites, the cost for dropping off recyclable wood is much less than the cost for garbage.
