Christmas trees are recycled into mulch and compost. Compost and mulch made from Christmas Trees is highly prized for its acidic qualities. Please take advantage of one of the three convenient recycling methods available to you.

Remember that in order for your tree to be recycled, it must be free of decoration, tinsel and stand (metal or wood). Flocked trees will not be accepted.

Residents have three options for recycling their Christmas Tree this year:

1. Cut the tree to fit in yard waste container.

Put your tree in your yard waste container and place at the curb on your regular yard waste collection day. The tree MUST be CUT TO FIT inside the container. Trees sticking out of the container can interfere with the lifting arm on the truck. Thank you for your help.

Healdsburg, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa and Windsor have whole tree collection; place tree beside yard waste container on your regular yard waste collection day the weeks of:
Healdsburg December 29, 2008-January 18, 2009
Rohnert Park January 5-18, 2009
Santa Rosa December 29, 2008 to January 11, 2009
Windsor December 29, 2008 to January 4, 2009

Please note that Tuesday January 1, 2009 is a holiday. Therefore, service will be delayed by one day for Thursday through Friday customers.

Outside of listed days, place tree in yard waste container; cut tree to fit. Please do not bag your tree.

2. Call 565-3333 for an appointment to have a non-profit in your area pickup your tree. The pickup dates are December 27-28, 2008, January 3-4, 2009 and January 10-11, 2009. Call before Friday, January 9, 2009 for an appointment. There is a $5 donation for this service.

3. Free drop-off locations throughout the county. You may take up to two trees to any of the following drop-off locations at no charge.
