    Instructions for participation:
    1. Change your oil. Avoid spills. Immediately clean-up spills if they happen.
    2. Using the funnel provided, carefully transfer oil from oil pan to oil recycling container. Pour slowly and make sure funnel is stable to avoid spills. Secure the cap tightly, while making sure that it is not cross-threaded.
    3. Drain oil filter. Most filters can fit inside the funnel for draining. Filters should drain for several hours.
    4. Place oil filter in heavy, zip-lock provided. Make sure that the zip-lock is securely sealed.
    5. Place oil recycling container and oil filter bag at curb with other recyclables by 5:30 a.m. on your regular recycling day. Place container on end with cap facing up.
    6. Please place oil container and filter bag so that it is visible to the recycling driver. Do not place oil container and filter bag where they will be tipped over when your garbage container is emptied.
    7. Do NOT place your oil container or filter bag out more than 12 hours before pickup. Oil is a hazard to fish and wildlife, so it is important not to leave it unattended for extended periods of time.
    8. If your oil or filter is not picked up with your recyclables, call your hauler. Remove the oil container and oil filter bag from the curb if collection will not occur within 12 hours.

Why curbside oil and filter recycling?
We brought curbside oil and filter recycling to your door to increase convenience. 50% of oil generated by do-it-yourself oil changers in Sonoma County is not currently recycled, an estimated 140,000 gallons annually. Even fewer oil filters are recycled. Now recycling is so easy that there is no reason not to recycle oil and filters. All we ask is that you protect the environment when changing your oil.
